Wine, The Fighting Skin Cancer

Behind the freshness, the grapes have great benefits for health. A study in Spain revealed that regular consumption of wine can prevent premature aging and even skin cancer.

The research team from the National Research Council of the University of Barcelona found a compound in wine that can protect skin cells from adverse effects of sunlight. Compounds known as flavonoids that acts to prevent the formation of cancer cells.

The study was conducted after analyzing the process of formation of skin cancer cells. Type of cancer is generally formed by the generated ultraviolet rays of the sun. When hitting the skin, ultraviolet rays would increase the reaction harmful molecules that damage the skin.

Dr. Marta Cascante, a biochemist at the University of Barcelona and director of the research project, said, "These encouraging results and should be considered for advanced materials in developing new discoveries about skin protection products."

Cosmetics and drugs containing the compounds of wine are available, but its effect on the cells is not well understood until now.

"This study supports the idea of using a product made from grapes in order to protect the skin from damage and cell death caused by solar radiation," kara Dr. Cascante who publish their study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
